Why timber windows?

Timber windows are trending again and more users think about choosing them for their home. The main advantage of timber is that it is a natural material. It is easily treated and durable, characterized by a great thermal insulation and looks aesthetic as well. Timber windows also have a few other features. Primarily, timber is a ‘breathing’ material. It allows small air particles into the room without even opening the window. Secondly, because of its natural features, timber is harmless to the environment and human beings, if treated properly. Windows made by Fenestrum are characterized by long lasting and durability, they are easy to maintain and repair as well. Timber windows have great sound insulation features. They are very important for the people living in big cities when they are trying to isolate themselves from the noise coming from the street. Last, but not least is the aesthetic look of timber windows. Tiber windows are not only thermal insulated and sound proof, but they also look good. A finish which is chosen and matched to the design of your home reveals all the beauty of timber, and this allows to improve the aesthetic look of your home.

Manufacturing process of timber windows

Timber windows will last for a long time if they are made in accordance with all the requirements of timber window manufacture technology. It ensures deformation and rot prevention due to the dampness. UAB Fenestrum applies high quality standards and ensures only the highest quality production. Manufacturing process of timber windows is carried out in the following stages. The choice of quality materials and the implementation of technological process is very important in every stage. It ensures an impeccable quality and the maximum life cycle of windows.

Timber is chosen in the first stage of manufacturing. Our timber windows are made from three layer glued timber. Three kinds of timber are available: Pine, Larch or Oak. Glued timber is significantly stronger than solid one, therefore it is better for timber windows. Glued timber is made by gluing three panels together with wood-fibers of each panel facing different way. Timber windows from glued timber become very resistant to sudden temperature changes, increased humidity and deformation. Other than that timber windows do not prevent micro ventilation, which allows timber window to ‘breathe’. If you compare glued timber windows with solid ones – glued timber is 80% more durable and about 40% stronger than solid wood window frames. The timber comes from FSC certified suppliers, which ensures the quality. FSC certificate guarantees that the timber used for manufacturing was from the forest which is maintained properly. Forest is considered to be maintained properly when long-term economic benefits, ecology and environmental protection are combined together.

Not only the frame material, but also the glass is very important in the process of manufacturing timber windows. The basic set of a quality timber window includes: single, double or triple glazing. Toughened, laminated or obscure glass is also available.

Finish of the window frame comes in various configurations: wood stain or paint. The painting is done using acrylic water-dispersive materials that are considered to be environmentally friendly and ensure strong adhesion with the timber for a long period of time. Fenestrum has a large palette of colors and can also do two-color painting on request. All the finishing materials come from either Teknos or Sikkens.

The choice of quality hardware is as important as any other stage in the process of manufacturing timber windows. Modern window hardware is very functional and practical. Handles, catchers, locking mechanisms, micro-ventilations mechanisms and other complicated devises are responsible for opening, fixation in any position, turning and closing the window. The durability and reliability of the windows depend on the quality of these mechanisms. High-quality reliable hardware must be: durable with no plastic pieces. For safely and conveniently opening windows we use high-quality German G-U (Gretsch-Unitas), ROTO FRANK AG Pickard Hardware, very popular and well recognized globally. Pickard hardware provides a ten year warranty as well.

Essential choice – timber or plastic windows?

Not so long ago, plastic windows were the most popular solution in the Lithuanian market. However, the situation is changing gradually and, now, timber windows is a great competitor for plastic ones. People looking for the highest quality choose timber windows. They have a higher durability rate as well as are air conductive, therefore unlike plastic windows, timber ones ‘breathe’. Most users of plastic windows have probably encountered with cloudy glasses or accumulated excessive moisture. Actually, if we compare plastic widows with timber ones in terms of price, plastic windows are cheaper, therefore that is what often determines the choice. Nevertheless, it should not be forgotten that when you buy more expensive, but high-quality timber windows, you invest in your home. Timber widows is a log-term and ecological solution, which will last for a long time.
